Twitter explodes over Stranger Things season two

IT'S been an agonisingly long wait but finally, the people behind the hugely popular Netflix series Stranger Things have given us a proper look at season two.

In front of 5,000 passionate fans at San Diego's Comic-Con, the creators dropped a three-minute trailer for the second season - proving that, when the show returns in October, it's going to be darker than ever.

The trailer, expertly set to Michael Jackson's Thriller, features all of the 80s nostalgia that made the world fall in love with the show in the first place including the boys dressed up as Ghostbusters and playing arcade game Dragon's Lair.

Will - the character who ended the first season by vomiting up ominous looking slugs after spending most of his time in the Upside Down - looks like his second season isn't going to get any easier after he is intermittently transferred to the same dark world he spent most of season one.

The scariest part of the trailer comes when Winona Ryder, the actress who plays Will's mum, shakily asks, "What does it want?"

"Not me, everybody else," Will replies.

Eleven also makes a brief appearance after she left the real world to fight the demagorgon and fans rejoiced after she seems to make it out okay judging by the trailer's final scene.

Months ago, the season's original description hinted at something bigger than the demagorgon coming for the alien-fighting gang - and the new trailer finally gives us the first look at what they might have to face.

"It's 1984 and the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana are still reeling from the horrors of the demagorgon and the secrets of Hawkins Lab. Will Byers has been rescued from the Upside Down but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived," the description reads.

And unsurprisingly, Twitter have absolutely lost it over the much-anticipated trailer.

The show stars Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Gaten Matarazzo and Caleb McLaughlin and despite the fact that none of them are older than 15, they quickly managed to propel the 80s themed show to cult status after only one season.

Stranger Things season two will drop its entire nine episodes on Netflix on October 27.
