The one and only 2015 McLaren 650S Coupe

THIS week I will be featuring the latest supercar to come from the town of Woking in the UK, the one and only 2015 McLaren 650S Coupe.

McLaren first released the 650S to the public at the Geneva Motor Show back in March this year as a brand-new model to sit a spot above the 12C, but below the P1.

A week after the launch, McLaren had suspended the production of the 12C in order to primarily focus on the 650S, and they later announced that the 650S would replace the 12C altogether.

McLaren have kept the same 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine that was in the 12C, but they have beefed it up so it now produces 478kW (641 hp) at 7250rpm and 678Nm of torque (500 lb-ft of torque) at 6000rpm.

Even though it has more power and torque as the 12C, it still retains the same fuel efficiency with consumption at 11.7 litres/100km (24.2 mpg) combined.

Connected to this engine is McLaren's very own seven-speed dual-clutch SSG (seamless-shift gearbox), which can produce lightning fast shifts throughout the rev range. This particular model also has a kerb weight of just 1330 kilograms.

All of this power and torque gets sent straight to the rear wheels, and surprisingly the 650S is able to launch from 0-100 kilometres per hour in just 3.0 seconds.

This is compared to the Lamborghini Aventador which has 700 horsepower and all-wheel drive, and can complete the 0-100 kph acceleration test in 2.9 seconds. The 650S is also able to reach a top speed of 333 kilometres per hour (207 miles per hour).

Some other features that this particular McLaren is equipped with includes 19-inch front and 20-inch rear five-spoke lightweight forged wheels, Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tyres, carbon ceramic disc brakes, a rear spoiler which also acts as an air-brake, double-wishbone front and rear suspension, four-wheel ABS as well as traction and stability control, a full alcantara interior and much more.

The 2015 McLaren 650S Coupe starts at $441,500 plus on-road costs, and you can order your very own model from the only authorised McLaren dealer in Australia, Trivett Sydney.
