OPINION: Destination Byron- Now is the time to get involved

THIS week Destination Byron says goodbye and a huge thank you to Nicole Reeves, who has chaired our events sub-committee for the past few years.

Nicole has been a passionate and enthusiastic contributor who has bought immense experience and leadership to an extremely important sector of our industry.

One of the most significant aspects of Nicole's time with Destination Byron was the impact that can be created in our destination when we have experienced and knowledgeable individuals giving of their time to make a contribution.

That contribution can make a small but significant difference to achieving the goals of the organisation, the industry and the destination of Byron Shire.

We have some extremely experienced operators in the Byron Shire and I am sure that they are busy in their businesses, as are all of the current board members and committee members of Destination Byron. If ever there was a time to get involved though, it is now.

So much of the hard work has been done in establishing the foundation of a genuine tourism industry organisation for Byron Shire.

The next stage is to achieve, and over the next few months there are a number of projects that Destination Byron will be working on.

These include our second Tourism Symposium - a high-level information and educational forum industry cannot afford to miss - the second AFL 9s tournament and a Canon photography event to be hosted in Byron.

To all of those experienced tourism operators who want to make a difference, or improve how our destination operates for our industry, I urge you to get involved in this genuine, industry-led organisation.
