New boho-inspired store thrives in Mackay climate
A MACKAY business owner has managed to grow her humble boho-inspired market stall into a fully-fledged retail store.
You may recognise her colourful, patterned dresses from the centre aisle of Caneland Central.
Now, they grace the walls, along with handmade gifts, jewellery, accessories and more inside the shop space opposite Jamaica Blue on the ground floor.
Leanne Marriott said the move paid off with triple the amount of customers.
"I was really scared that we were going to fold, but we just exploded," Ms Marriott said.
All stock came from Australian businesses including other Mackay business owners, she said.
"I've got a few friends and they did markets with me and I try and support them."
She added they were proud to stock clothes made of breathable fabric suited to Mackay's humidity.
"It's relaxed, it's easy to wear, smart casual," she said.
"And if you're unsure of how to dress, the girls will really help you out."
Store manager Sally-Anne Pritchard said the staff would "bend over backwards" to help their customers feel beautiful.
