THE brother of slain Sydney nurse Lorraine Wilson has travelled from his New South Wales home to attend the last day of the inquest into the 1974 murders of his sister and her friend Wendy Evans.

Eric Wilson attended each day of the inquest in Toowoomba in May and said he wouldn't miss the final evidence to be given before Coroner Michael Barnes in Brisbane today.

"I believe there might be a surprise witness to give evidence as well if the coroner allows it.

"There have been a lot of new leads since the inquest started."

Hitchhikers Lorraine Wilson and Wendy Evans were raped, tortured and bludgeoned to death in a paddock off Murphys Creek Rd at the foot of the Toowoomba Range in October, 1974.

The inquest hopes to establish the particulars of their deaths and, if possible, nominate those responsible. Of seven "persons of interest" who have been identified, four have since died.
