Men on run after boy, 10, shot in home invasion

A 10-year-old boy was in a serious condition after being shot during a violent Boxing Day home invasion south of Brisbane.

The boy and his 31-year-old father were inside a residence on Ammons St, Browns Plains, when two men entered the home armed with a machete and a firearm just before 8pm.

Police said an altercation resulted in the firearm being discharged before the two male assailants fled the scene.

The boy was taken to the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital with a gunshot wound to the shoulder and his 31-year-old father was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with an injury to his abdomen.

The boy was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition and the man was in a stable condition.

The injuries were not life threatening. It's believed the man was grazed after the firearm was discharged.

Queensland Ambulance Service medical director Dr Stephen Rashford says both are lucky not to have been more seriously hurt or worse.

"It is very fortunate in this scenario that both patients suffered non-life threatening injuries and were transported to major trauma services in a stable condition," he said.

A short time later a police dog was attacked by a dog at the residence where the incident took place, as police searched for the assailants.

The dog sustained a torn leg muscle injury and was taken to a local vet for treatment.

The police handler was also injured as he attempted to separate the two animals and has received medical treatment for lacerations.

Police were searching for the two assailants who remained on the run Tuesday night.

Officers have asked for anyone who may have seen, or who has dashcam footage of, two men entering a vehicle in the westbound lanes of Browns Plains Rd in the vicinity of Waller Rd at around 8pm to contact Policelink on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
