G20 costs keep coming: $24,000 spent on flowers for Modi
THEY came, they spoke, and they flew out on their presidential jets.
But long after Barack Obama, Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin and his accompanying warships left Australian shores, the bill for hosting the G20 leaders' summit continues to rise.
A number of G20-related costs for last month's $400 million talkfest in Brisbane have been released by the federal government in recent days.
- $586,000 to hire the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art as a venue for four days
- $300,000 paid to the Queensland parliament to host the leader's retreat
- Another $368,000 on luxury hotel rooms - pushing the total bill past $13 million
- And $24,000 on flowers for a post-G20 reception for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi
The government hosted a banquet for Mr Modi at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on November 18. Guests included Treasurer Joe Hockey, mining billionaire Gina Rinehart and trucker Lindsay Fox.
