Ex-NRL star charged over ‘love triangle’ altercation

Former Bulldogs hooker Michael Lichaa has reportedly been involved in a 'domestic altercation' involving another NRL star last weekend.

The Daily Telegraph reported on Monday morning that Lichaa had been charged by police with common assault (DV), destroy or damage property (DV) and stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm (DV).

The 27-year old, who last year played for Cronulla-Caringbah in the Sydney Shield, was involved in an altercation in Connells Point in the early hours of Sunday morning. The Telegraph described it as a "love triangle" and reported that the partner of one of the players was at the centre of the dispute.

Veteran journalist Phil Rothfield told The Big Sports Breakfast that the incident also involves a current Bulldogs player.

"There's a story on the front page of the Tele this morning that I don't want to discuss at length. It involves Michael Lichaa, who is no longer at the Bulldogs and is now playing NSWRL in Sydney Shield," Rothfield said

"The name of a Canterbury Bulldogs player who was involved in the altercation will come out today with police and the NRL integrity unit.

"I hear this player might have been injured too, which is a concern.

"Unfortunately, it is back in the news and it will be a big talking point today in rugby league."

Lichaa was taken to hospital with cuts to his arm on Sunday morning, and was released later that day before being questioned by police over the alleged assault of a 26-year old woman.

Lichaa played 113 NRL games for the Sharks and Bulldogs, and has also represented Lebanon in five Test matches.
