Dad drags rapist son to police station
A teenage rapist has been jailed for two years after his parents forced him to confess to police.
British father Jonathan Evans found out about his son's crime when he came across a text message apologising to his victim.
The 18-year-old carried out the attack in January last year but almost got away with it because his victim never made a complaint.
However, when his father and stepmother Sarah Morrie spotted the text which he sent the victim two months after the crime, they marched the teen down to the police station.
Evans, who is now in a young offenders' institution, had told officers his name and what he had done.
Police later tracked down his victim who told them: "He raped me."
Takeaway restaurant worker Evans had persuaded the young woman to have sex with him but she changed her mind at the last minute, Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court heard.
"He carried on anyway despite her telling him to stop and trying to push him off," Prosecutor Claire Pickthall said.
"She didn't make a complaint but two months later Evans and his stepmother turned up at a police station to say what had happened."
The victim, who was a virgin, said she was left feeling "worthless" and unable to trust men again, BBC reported.
Evans, who was 17 at the time of the rape, has been jailed for two years and ordered to register as a sex offender at Merthyr Tydfil crown court.
"I wanted him to tell the truth, he had to do the right thing and admit his guilt," his father told The Sun.
"It's been difficult for all of us and it's caused quite a few arguments.
"We just hope he spends his time inside getting some qualifications."
Gareth Williams, defending, asked for a suspended sentence because of the "exceptional circumstances".
"It is extremely rare for anyone to admit to such a serious offence without there being a complaint," he said.
But Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke said there were aggravating features and Evans had to be jailed.
"Two months after the rape you apologised to your victim and said you understood why she was upset," Ms Lloyd-Clarke said.
"But that text came to the attention of your father and mother who took you to a police station.
"You told an officer your name and said you'd had sex with the young woman."
Evans mouthed "I Love you" to his tearful mother Deniz Stewart in the public gallery as he was led to the cells.
He was ordered to register as a sex offender for 10 years.
