Cineplex signs up for Redbank Plaza

CINEPLEX Australia will takeover the lease from Reading at Redbank Plaza and plans a $4 million refurbishment for the 15-year-old cinemas.

The cinema will be extended an extra 150sqm to make way for a licensed cafe lounge and the foyer will be refurbished with a new candy bar. The extensive refurbishment also includes new seats, carpets, screens and facilities.

Cineplex manager Sam Catalano said the works would also deliver an upmarket option with Queensland's largest deluxe auditorium with reclining seats, alcohol and hot food service.

"We are ecstatic to be refurbishing the current site and bringing our family friendly and affordable cinemas to Ipswich," Mr Catalano said.

Mr Catalano said the cinema extensions would create 10 new positions and all existing cinema staff would have the opportunity to work for Cineplex Redbank Plaza.

Redbank Plaza centre manager Belinda Hartas said Cineplex Cinemas would take management of the Redbank Plaza Cinema late this year with refurbishment works to start soon after.

In the QT in October Redbank Plaza played down rumours Reading Cinemas was closing as negotiations were ongoing.

Ms Hartas said it was a coup for Ipswich to attract Cineplex with residents travelling to Southbank previously for their cinema experience.

"We know how integral this entertainment offering is to our local community, and we have listened to the feedback of our customers who wanted a better cinema experience with the same low prices," Ms Hartas said.

"Following the complex's refurbishment, we look forward to once again offering customers an affordable local entertainment destination in Redbank."

Cineplex Australia is one of the largest privately owned cinema brands in south-east Queensland and has established itself as the market leader in value for money cinema entertainment.
