Bachelor star explains ‘out of body’ redhead rant
The Bachelor's Zoe-Clare McDonald has cleared up her cocktail party meltdown, saying she was having an "out of body experience" after mixing medication with alcohol.
The 23-year-old Brisbane sales manager went on a bizarre rant during the first episode of the Channel 10 show, during which she accused a fellow contestant of targeting her because she was a redhead, before saying "no one has my bone structure, no one has my body".
Following her elimination from the show on Wednesday, McDonald laughed off the monologue and denied suggestions she was intoxicated, saying she was taking medication for a gastro bug and didn't remember most of the night.
"I couldn't stop throwing up," she told the Courier-Mail.
"I had been given medication by a doctor to feel better. I was drinking water all night."
"We filmed it (the cocktail party) over two nights. The second night they said 'Have a drink and see how you go'. I had two drinks and I think the mix of medication and drinking wasn't a great mix for me."
"I honestly don't (remember). I remember the first night really well but the second night was an out of body experience. Even watching it back was crazy for me."
She added: "I'm just laughing. It's water off a duck's back."
McDonald said there had been comments made about her hair at the cocktail party that weren't shown on the episode.
"There were things said but it's not worth bringing light to," she said.
"It was definitely something I was upset about at the time."
"My last name is McDonald. I definitely struggled with bullying because of my red hair. It's definitely a sore spot. Looking back I think 'Oh Zoe you don't really care' but people only see 1 per cent of what's said."
When it came to photos that surfaced of her with blonde hair, posted three years ago, McDonald said she had dyed her hair as soon as she was allowed to after finishing school "because it was a sore spot".
But she had since embraced her natural hair colour, which she shares with her extended family.
McDonald, who is still single, said she had no regrets about her time on the show, and urged fans, especially female viewers, not to tear down the women in the mansion.
"I think we know some of the girls are tearing each other down," she said.
"We never know what's been said or how it's said so we all have to take it light heartedly … and be considerate."
"Don't judge a book by it's cover I guess."
