Anti-abortion activist has Australian visa cancelled

THE visa of controversial US anti-abortion campaigner Troy Newman has been cancelled ahead of his national speaking tour.

He was due to speak at Right to Life Australia-organised events in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Hobart and Cairns.

The activist hit the headlines after saying women who had abortions were murderers and calling for medical professionals who performed abortions to be executed.

US airline officials prevented him from boarding a plane in Denver bound for Melbourne via Los Angeles on Wednesday night and told him to contact the Australian Embassy.

Immigration Minister Peter Dutton said in a statement there were concerns Mr Newman's presence could incite hate.

"Mr Newman can appeal for a revocation of this decision and no further comment will be made during this appeal period," he said.
